Death Ceremonial [Rambu Solo’] TORAJA-SOUTH SULAWESI-INDONESIA
These are some of the series of customary rituals of the death feast in Toraja. I was up there using a white hat, along with my colleagues to document the ongoing events and where I stand is where the deceased is laid during the customary ritual.
The process of cutting buffalo, buffalo is the most important animal and must exist in this ritual because people believe that the buffalo is a transport to the “Puya” which they call a paradise in the past Toraja Dead religion and the more buffaloes cut of faster the deceased to “Puya” other than buffalo, pigs are also cut for consumption during the event or to be distributed to guests and auctioned
Tournament buffalo fights For Toraja people, buffalo race is a form of consolation for families who are experiencing grief. In the ceremony of death or known “Rambu Solo” in Toraja language, tournament buffalo race is one of the important elements and quite eagerly awaited because this activity has its own fans, either from the grieving family or who came to mourn and just come to watch .
